Police is yet to arrest a woman teacher accused of causing the death of a girl student after subjecting her to corporal punishment in New Delhi.

A senior police official said they had questioned Manju, the accused teacher but was yet to arrest her as investigators are collecting evidence in the case.
Manju, the teacher of MCD school in Outer Delhi’s Bawana, was accused of making 11-year-old Shanno stand in the sun with bricks on her shoulders, which led to the girl slipping into coma and later to her death on April 17.
The official said the teacher was not absconding. A case of death due to negligence, which is a bailable offence, was registered against her.
“We are the awaiting post-mortem report,” the official added.
The preliminary post-mortem report suggested that there was no external injury mark on Shanno’s body, the official said.
During questioning, the official said, the teacher had said she did not do anything to the girl which led to her death.
