Poll panel to review preparations in WB, Orissa

Election commissioners are leaving for West Bengal and Orissa later on Wednesday to review poll preparedness in the two states.

Election commissioners are leaving for West Bengal and Orissa later on Wednesday to review poll preparedness in the two states.

The three members of the Election Commission (EC) - Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami and Election Commissioners Navin Chawla and S Y Quraishi - will leave Wednesday and be back on Saturday.

An EC statement said they were leaving "for Kolkata to undertake review of preparation for general election in West Bengal on Thursday. Thereafter, Election Commission will reach Bhubaneswar on Friday."

Elections in West Bengal will be conducted in three phases on April 30, May 7 and May 13. Polls in Orissa are in two phases on April 16 and April 23. Counting will be on May 16.
