Large parts South Delhi went without electricity for close to six hours hours on a particularly muggy afternoon on Saturday. The power generation and transmission apparatus was also crippled by the breakdowns.

Starting at 6.15 a.m., the supply from the Badarpur Thermal Power Station stopped due to an unscheduled shutdown. Authorities claimed it was for routine maintenance. Soon after, a 33-KV grid station of the Delhi Transco in Okhla in South Delhi went kaput at 10.15 a.m., leading to widespread power cuts in Okhla, CR Park, New Friends Colony, Saket, Alaknanda, GK-II and adjoining areas.
“It was a technical snag, which we fixed by 1p.m.,” said a senior official of Delhi Transco.
Residents, however, said the power supply was restored only around 3 p.m., making it a close-to-six-hour-long power cut on a day when the humidity was close to 75 per cent. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 37 degrees Celisus.
