Demanding immediate reversal of the decision to commute the life sentence of Kishori Lal, sentenced for killing eight people during the 1984 riots, hundreds of Sikhs protested outside the residence of chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday.

Another group protested outside Karkardooma courts where several riots cases are being heard. The protesters accused Dikshit and L-G Tejendra Khanna for showing leniency towards the 1984 riots accused.

“He (Kishori Lal) was awarded death sentence in three cases and even the high court had upheld the sentence but it was later commuted to life sentence. Now the government has further commuted the sentence of the person who mercilessly killed eight innocents. We cannot tolerate this,” said Delhi Pradesh president of Akali Dal (Badal) Manjit Singh.

Shouting slogans against Dikshit and Khanna, the protesters, including relatives of riot victims, demanded that no leniency should be showed to Kishori Lal, a resident of Trilokpuri in east Delhi.

The All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF), National 1984 Victims Justice and Welfare Society and widows of November 1984 held a justice rally outside Karkardooma Court. Protesters also demanded prosecution of Jagdish Tytler.
