Rahul Gandhi on Friday made a rather determined statement rejecting the government’s ordinance shielding convicted lawmakers. His apparently surprise move earned him bouquets as well as brickbats.

Though caught unawares, the Congress rallied around Gandhi, but the opposition latched on to his strong criticism of a government move.

For the most part, the questions and criticism had solid back up, especially with Gandhi’s remarks seemingly putting pressure on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Gandhi’s remarks triggered a Twitter frenzy, which, in a very un-Twitterish way, continued aggressively on Saturday.

A number of people came out in support of the man who is widely seen as the Congress’ PM face for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Many chose to take an even higher road and expressed their support for Gandhi, asking others to keep the politics out of it.

In a country embroiled in the Rahul Gandhi versus Narendra Modi political debate, keeping the politics out of it seems like a long shot, but finding entertainment within the debate, visibly so, is not hard at all.
