Raising Water production focus of DJB’s budget plans

The Delhi Jal Board has drawn up a budget of Rs 3,780.91 crore for 2012-13 with stress on raising of water production by 65 million gallons per day to 900 MGD and increasing sewage capacity.

Budget proposals, including those to the tune of Rs 1984.74 crore under the plan head and rest under the non-plan head, were approved at the 107th meeting of the water utility on Wednesday.

With the commissioning of the Chandrawal Recycling Plant and the Dwarka and Okhla water treatment plants, expected to receive raw water from proposed Munak lined canal, water production is expected to increase, the DJB said in a statement.

Sewage capacity is set to increase by 100MGD to 614MGD with the commissioning of the Okhla sewage treatment plant (STP) of 30MGD capacity, Yamuna Vihar STP (25MGD) and the Kondli STP (45MGD).

The Revenue Management System will be launched in June this year, it said. Efforts to provide piped supply to unauthorised colonies will continue.
