Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today termed the rape of a 30-year-old woman allegedly by a traffic policeman as a "very serious matter" and hoped that appropriate action will be taken against the guilty.

"It is a very serious matter. It is not acceptable at all... I think it is something we all feel very disturbed about," Dikshit said when asked about the incident that took place on the night of May 23.
A traffic constable and his friend were arrested for allegedly raping the woman in a moving car on that day.
"Police have to take action. I am sure that action against the guilty will be taken according to whatever their rules and regulations are," she said. Delhi Police functions under the Central government.
Police said the constable and his friend had befriended the woman over a period of time and on Sunday night, after having dinner at her residence, they all had gone out in a car.
According to the victim, police said, the constable and his friend overpowered her and took turns to rape her inside the car. She was dropped at her house on Monday morning.

{{/usCountry}}The woman approached police in the evening after which a medical examination was conducted. The tests confirmed rape and the constable and his friend were arrested.
