Army says it is ready to send more troops to Rajasthan if required by civil authorities to tackle violent Gujjar agitation in addition to over 2,100 armymen already deployed there.

Army on Tuesday said it was ready to send more troops to Rajasthan if required by civil authorities to tackle violent Gujjar agitation in addition to over 2,100 armymen already deployed there.

"Further deployment in the state depends on the requirement by civil authorities," Army Chief Gen Deepak Kapoor
told reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi.

Eighteen columns (2,160 personnel) have already been deployed in Dausa, Bayana and adjoining areas to keep a strict vigil where Gujjar agitation for scheduled caste status had turned violent, he said.

Earlier, addressing a seminar on 'technology and anti-technology' he said, "The role and responsibility of communication is of paramount importance for the success of military operations."

He said there should be proper prosecution to check any misinformation or degraded information that could be discriminated by tampering the technology.

The minister of state for defence MM Palam Raju also underlined the relevance of technology for modernising defence forces.
