In a major relief to small shopkeepers, the MCD on Tuesday said those carrying out trade in 24 items mentioned in the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 will not have to procure licenses.

The move is expected to benefit nearly five lakh petty shopkeepers who are dealing with the items of day-to-day need, MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said while presenting the revised budget estimates for 2008-09 and budget estimates for 2009-10.

"The essentiality of trade licenses for petty shopkeepers carrying out trade in 24 items mentioned in the Master Plan 2021 will be done away with," he said.
