As the CBI cast doubts on the role of her parents in Aarushi Talwar's murder, legal experts on Friday called the closure report, on the grounds of insufficient evidence, "absurd" and "unfair".

Justice RS Sodhi, a former judge of the Delhi high court, said: "This means CBI's conclusion is very unfair. A closure report is filed when each line of investigation is blocked and the entire exercise has reached a dead end. Going by observations in the report, it doesn't seem so. There is scope to proceed against certain people."

After CBI claimed that the Talwars tried to mislead the probe and also tried to influence the doctor who conducted the post-mortem examination - an allegation denied by the Talwars - Sodhi said: "After saying all this, it seems like CBI is telling the court that these people are suspects, but we are helpless and want the court to do something."

Supreme Court lawyer Surat Singh, however, said the CBI should book the people whom they suspect of destroying evidence, which, in itself, was a serious offence. "Thereby indirectly they can get to the main accused," he said.
