Road revamp for Delhi’s big show

The Delhi government certainly seems to think so, at least as far as the streets leading to the venues of the Commonwealth Games 2010 are concerned.

Eight-10 km of lucky roads connecting each of the the eight Games venues with the Games Village—where sportspersons from across the world will be staying—are set to get an international-style makeover that will cost the government Rs 250 crore.

“Apart from adding to the aesthetics, the beautification will also help in easing traffic flow on these stretches,” said PWD chief engineer Vinay Kumar. The Public Works Department is the body entrusted with the makeover.

The government has also appointed consultants for the best utilisation of resources, who are to submit their reports during the week.

Aspiring for an international look comes as no surprise, as an estimated one lakh tourists, international and local, are expected to land in New Delhi during the Games from the first week of October 2010.
