Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav on Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demanded a special package of Rs 14,808.59 crore for the flood-hit people of north Bihar.

In a memorandum to the prime minister, he stressed upon issues like housing and shelter, rebuilding community assets, desiltation of high deposit sand making cultivable land infertile, irrigation, restoring road communication, health and urban infrastructure, drinking water and sanitation.
Yadav later said he also demanded immediate release of money to the state from the Calamity Relief Fund to tide over the damage caused by the river Kosi during the rainy season this year.
He sought additional quantum of food-grains for the flood-affected people of the state as the floods damaged standing crops in vast tracts of land.
Yadav said Singh assured him that he would look into the issue to mitigate the hardships of the flood victims.
