Pandemonium prevailed in the East Delhi Municipal Corporation House on Monday when a discussion on de-silting of drains turned into a mud-slinging match.

Soon after the House met to discuss the issue, the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress councillors indulged in heated exchanges. Bansi Lal, an independent corporator from Geeta Colony, joined in and had an altercation with his BJP counterparts.

Miffed at the ruckus in the House, Mayor Annapurna Mishra called Bansi Lal "mentally unstable". The House was later adjourned.

Mishra blamed her outburst on the spur of the moment, saying such incidents “keep happening and should not be blown out of proportion”.

But an angry Opposition refused to budge, demanding an apology from the Mayor. Leader of the Opposition Varyam Kaur said the Opposition will not let the House function till the Mayor tenders an unconditional apology.
