Satyam saga doesn’t scare city institutes

Contrary to common belief, the placement cell officers of reputed institutes —Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT), Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) and Jamia Millia Islamia's Faculty of Engineering — feel that employability of students will not suffer with Satyam’s disappearance from the recruitment drives.

The IT firm visits the NSIT campus regularly and this year it picked up 24 students from the campus.

Placement coordinator MPS Bhatia said he is not too worried. “There is no official communication from Satyam on whether these offers still stand. However, each of these students has other job offers. If this does not work out then they'll probably opt for another company,” said Bhatia.

“For most of us, it’s a wait and watch game now. But I am not a nervous wreck as I have another offer in hand from BHEL,” said an NSIT student who did not wish to be named. The students was offered a pay package of Rs 3.5 lakh pa by Satyam.

“IIT has close to 250 companies which are eager to employ our students. One company turning down our invite does not have any drastic effect on us,” said professor in charge Kushal Sen.

“About 11 students of Jamia Millia, who were suppose to join Satyam in July last year, were not allowed to so and the company did not cite concrete reasons for this. These students, however, had offers from other companies and consequently did not suffer,” said Jamia’s placement in-charge Rihan Khan Suri.
