SC issues notice to Govt on Rajiv assassination case

The SC issued notice to the T Nadu Govt on a plea by PR Ravichandran, convicted for the May 1991 assassination of former PM Rajiv Gandhi, who has sought his release from jail after serving a 14-year term.

The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Tamil Nadu government on a plea by PR Ravichandran, convicted for the May 1991 assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, who has sought his release from jail after serving a 14-year term.

In his plea to the bench of chief justice KG Balakrishnan, Ravichandran contended that the Tamil Nadu government was not taking a decision on his release despite the completion of his life sentence.
