The PMO, in a letter to the law ministry, directed it to provide opinion on four questions arising out of the judgment, which came down heavily on it.

The law ministry has referred the matter to Attorney General GE Vahanvati.

The PMO, in its letter had asked the legal arm of the government whether "a review petition should be filed in the SC against the judgment".

It had also asked the law ministry to provide answers on whether the verdict had made any adverse comments on "named or unnamed" officials of the PMO and also if any immediate steps were required on the relevant section under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Vahanvati is expected to give his opinion within a week.
