The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to defer till after the Lok Sabha polls the hearing on review petitions filed by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family, challenging the order for a CBI probe into their alleged disproportionate assets.

The ruling came even as party general secretary Amar Singh came out with details of a sting operation in the matter.
In court, appearing for Mulayam’s son Akhilesh, counsel Mukul Rohtagi said if the case was decided during elections, it would have a bearing on the political process. “A better course would be to take it up after elections,” he argued but the court turned him down.
At a press conference, Singh displayed a CD that allegedly had Vishwanath Chaturvedi, petitioner in the case, stating he’d been invited to conduct the campaign against Mulayam by top Congress leaders. Chaturvedi is also attributed to having said that Sonia Gandhi knew him well. While staking his “individual credibility” on the authenticity of the CD, Singh said “he did not believe a dignified lady like Gandhi could have any role in the matter”.
