Sabharwal, a professor at Government Madhav College in Ujjain, was allegedly killed by six Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists. All the accused are under judicial custody in Bheravgarh Jail.

A bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat passed the order verbally after getting consensus from all parties concerned, including the state of Madhya Pradesh, represented by senior advocate Soli Sorabjee.

Sabharwal’s family thanked the Supreme Court.

“It is a shameful defeat for the state BJP government,” Sabharwal’s widow Prem, said on Friday. “The trial was not at all a fair one.
