Students beware! Think twice before indulging in on-campus netagiri. The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the expulsion of a girl student from college for organising protests against the principal and college administration.

“How can an educational institution run if you organise satyagrahas (civil disobedience) and carry placards? You are not Mahatma Gandhi,” said justice Markandey Katju said while dismissing the plea of Indulekha Joseph.
Maintaining that netagiri in colleges amounted to indiscipline, the bench dismissed Indulekha’s petition challenging a Kerala HC verdict upholding her February 2007 rustication from St George College, Aruvithura in Kerala. Daughter of a teacher in the same college, Indulekha had staged protests after the transfer of her father from the college.
