“It is to be ensured that all schools follow uniform admission criteria. They cannot be given unbridled power to frame their own criteria,” a bench of chief justice D Murugesan and justice VK Jain told the lawyer representing the Association of Unaided Schools.

The court once again made it clear that only draw of lots, which excludes any kind of classification, is to be followed and criteria such as sibling, first child, alumni, parents’ profession are against the Right to Education Act.

The Bench on Monday had said the validity of ongoing nursery admissions will be subject to the outcome of the PIL which has challenged the points system.
