Scotland Yard to give QBR scam details to CBI

The Scotland Yard of the UK will soon provide the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with details and documents required in its probe into alleged irregularities related to the conduct of Queen's Baton Relay (QBR) in London ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

"The Scotland Yard told our two-member team, which went to London last week to gather details on the QBR deals concluded by CWG's Organising Committee (OC), that it will gather all the documents and information required by us and send them via their reply to our two Letters Rogatories sent earlier," said an agency source.

The CBI team had visited London to help the Scotland Yard officials execute the two Letters Rogatories, formal communication sent in writing by the court in which the case is pending to a foreign court, requesting the testimony of a witness residing within its jurisdiction that the agency had recently sent to the UK.

"The Scotland Yard officials, who spent hours with our team in London, has assured us of extending their maximum cooperation," said the source. He added,

"We helped them understand what documents we needed and why. Among the documents we have sought are those related to suspicious banking transactions."

The details and documents to be sent by the UK authorities will have evidentiary value and could help the CBI in making a case against the suspects in two QBR deals concluded by the OC. The deals were done with the London-based AM Cars & Vans and AM Films, owned by Ashish Patel.

"We have examined Ashish Patel and he has made a lot of case-related revelations," said the source. The CBI suspects the two deals were done allegedly without following the tendering process as per norms and by awarding the contracts in an arbitrary manner.

"We want to know who had authorised the deal and the payments, which occurred without following the norms," said the source.
