Wednesday’s maximum stood two degrees above normal at 41.6 degrees Celsius while the minimum — four degrees above normal — was recorded at 30.2 degrees Celsius.

Post-mortems of victims confirmed dehydration and heat stroke as the cause of deaths.

In the first case, a senior citizen was found in an unconscious state on Mehrauli-Badarpur road in Saket.

Some bystanders informed the police who took her to AIIMS where she was declared brought dead. The woman was later identified as Shanti Devi (62), a resident of Sangam Vihar. Her family said Devi had gone missing on the day of the incident.

The second incident took place at Paharganj in Central Delhi. An unconscious woman was found outside the Ram Krishna Ashram Marg Metro Station at noon. She was declared dead by a nearby hospital. Neeta Khare (45) had come to Delhi a year and a half back from Madhya Pradesh and was living on the footpath in the area, police said.
