The police said the duo was arrested while trying to secure another loan on the same property.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police arrested Kamal Kishore Shukla, 60, and his wife Shashi Shukla, 53, from Kolkata.

"The accused couple used to offer the security of a single property located at Vaishali and obtain loans against the same. Shukla and his wife also sold the same property to at least two persons by creating fraudulent title deeds," said Harendra Singh, additional DCP (EOW).

According to police between 2006 and 2009, five cases of cheating were registered against them in Delhi and UP.

"Verification of the documents revealed that all the property papers and other documents such as balance sheets, income tax return and PAN card were forged to avail loans," Singh added.

After staying for a few days in Indore, the couple moved to Kolkata from where they were eventually arrested.
