A day after Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit made her intentions of bringing the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Delhi Police under the administrative control of the Delhi government, the BJP’s Shubash Arya, leader of MCD House, complained to the Election Commission against it on Saturday.

Arya termed the chief minister’s decision as a violation of the model code of conduct prevailing in the country in view of the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha polls to be held in a number of states on May 13.

In a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla, Arya took strong exception to the decision made by Dikshit at a meeting of her cabinet on Friday. “It was a policy matter and should have been held back in view of the forthcoming elections next week,” said Arya.

“The only logic behind this decision seems to be that the Congress wants to woo voters by hook or by crook. This is to take credit for good governance,” he added.
