Are Delhiites losing their cool? If one goes by Delhi Police statistics, it certainly seems to be the case. A man lost his life when he had a quarrel with his neighbour over using the toilet first in Civil Lines area of north Delhi in February this year.

A man lost his life when he had a quarrel with his neighbour over using the toilet first in Civil Lines area of north Delhi in February this year.

A man killed his colleague's six-year-old child when he did not allow him to enter the house in Kapashera area of southwest Delhi on February 20.

Incidents like this are not rare in Delhi where 40 murder cases were reported due to sudden provocation or trivial matters, police said.

Of the 251 murders reported in the Capital till June this year, 16 per cent cases were on minor issues.

On February 12, a man who was mediating between two fighting parties was killed.

On March 24, altercation following a minor collision between two vehicles in Anand Parbat led to the killing of another, police said.

"Apart from the murders due to sudden provocation, 10 per cent were passion-triggered," YS Dadwal, police commissioner said.

Six per cent of the murders were due to old enmity while three per cent were due to property or money disputes. 17 per cent of 518 murders committed last year were due to sudden provocation on trivial issues.

A cook was shot dead last year for not serving papad while two persons were killed for tying a goat and placing a ladder in front of their neighbour's house.

Delhi also saw a youth killing his sister-in-law for not washing his clothes, a security guard murdering his colleague for not relieving him on time and while a man murdering a dhaba-owner after water fell on his clothes.
