'Six infiltration attempts in 15 days in Jammu'

Almost six infiltration attempts by militants have been foiled by the Border Security Force in the last fortnight along the international border at Jammu, a top officer said today.

"We have foiled almost six infiltration attempts in the last fifteen days along the international border. We have increased the vigil to thwart any such attempt," Inspector General BSF Siddharth Chhatopadhaya told reporters on the sidelines of an internal security conference in New Delhi.

Chhatopadhaya said the BSF has lodged official protests with the Pakistan Rangers following the incidents.

"We are all concerned about the (infiltration) attempts. We have taken it up with the Pakistan Rangers," he said.

Given the scenario, the force has positioned more troops and additional weapons and equipment have been made available to thwart such attempts, he said.

Pakistan troops have indulged in nine ceasefire violations, which officials said were aimed at facilitating infiltration, this month in which two BSF jawans have been killed.
