The condition of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who has been in hospital in New Delhi since Jan 1 with a chest infection, is improving steadily, her doctors said on Saturday.

"Sonia Gandhi is improving steadily; her condition is stable and satisfactory. She is advised to continue rest," BK Rao, chairman of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital board of management, said in a statement.
The doctors did not say when the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson would be discharged from the hospital.
However Congress sources said Gandhi would leave the hospital on Sunday.
Gandhi, 61, who is being treated by a three-member team of doctors, was admitted to the private ward of the hospital with a cough and a slight breathing problem. The hospital said she had a "chest infection".
