Sonia to interact with party MPs, chalk out poll strategy

Sonia Gandhi will interact with party MPs today and is expected to unveil her party's strategy on the way ahead with focus on upcoming assembly polls in five states including Uttar Pradesh.

Gandhi is expected to unveil her party's strategy on the way ahead with focus on upcoming assembly polls in five states including Uttar Pradesh at a meeting of the general body of the Congress Parliamentary Party.

Later in the evening, she will also host a dinner for party MPs at a hotel.

The CPP meeting on Wednesday morning will be the first such meeting to be addressed by Gandhi in the last few months as the Congress President had skipped the monsoon session in July-August on account of being ill.

Gandhi, who is also UPA chairperson, had gone abroad for surgery for an unspecified ailment at that time.

The CPP meeting is also being held at a time when the Lokpal Bill is being debated intensely.

Gandhi will be addressing the party MPs against the backdrop of FDI in retail being put on hold and key allies calling for greater coordination in the UPA.

After the suspension of the decision allowing FDI in retail, the talk in UPA is that Congress will have to walk the extra mile on all major issues to keep the allies on board.
