The Information and Broadcasting ministry on Monday said that the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) was soon going to appoint a Technical Committee to proceed with the task of putting a TRP measurement mechanism in place.

This information was provided by I&B minister Ambika Soni in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha. Soni had been asked as to what the government was doing on the issue of TV viewership ratings, which has been the subject of a lot of controversies lately.
Soni said that the ministry had sent the recommendations of Dr Amit Mitra Committee on TRP system to the Indian Broadcasting Federation (IBF) which had then registered BARC in July 2010.
"Ministry has been regularly reviewing the progress made by BARC towards setting up of a transparent and credible TRP measurement system in India as per the recommendations of Dr Mitra's Committee," Soni said.
"BARC has recently informed the ministry that action has been taken by them to constitute a BARC Advisory High Table. They have also intimated that it has been decided by them to appoint a Technical Committee to proceed with the operational tasks for putting up a TRP measurement mechanism," she added.
