From Friday, traffic police have pressed their men with 10 interceptors at different locations to check the speed of these vehicles and prosecute the violators besides suspending the permits of defaulters for at least 30 days.

They have found that many of the DTC buses and other commercial vehicles with state or all- India permits are plying on the city roads either without any speed governors or with tampered ones.

As per the Supreme Court guidelines, they can ply on the roads at a maximum speed of 40 km per hour. Speed governors do not allow them to accelerate the buses beyond the speed limit of 40 km per hour.

“We have now shifted our focus from private cars to buses as they cause more road accidents to a large extent. The 10 interceptors to nab speeding cars, will now target the buses, many of which are plying with tempered speed governors,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
