To spread awareness about child labour and to eradicate the menace, the Delhi government plans to organise a week-long programme of street plays across all nine districts in the city. The main target areas where the plays would be performed include industrial areas and colonies where a majority of the labour population resides.

“We want to educate people about the menace of child labour. Our main aim will be to educate parents about sending their children to government-run schools where they would also get mid-day meals,” said a senior Delhi government official.

The street plays will be performed at prominent places in each of the districts.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) started observing June 12 as World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 at Geneva.
