A suspected Pakistani spy, who had been living in the Capital for the past one year, has been arrested, the police said on Tuesday.

Sajjad Haider (43), who hails from Lahore in Pakistan, was arrested on September 14, said Shibesh Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell). Haider was held by a team of Special Cell officers from Samalkha village on September 14 on a tip-off from the central intelligence agencies. Haider has also revealed the names of a few others who facilitated his activities in India. They are being questioned, Singh added.

He was staying in the Capital under an assumed name of Mohammed Pervez. Confidential documents related to Indian Army, a fake Indian driving licence, an Indian PAN card on fake identity along with Western Union money transfer receipts, rent agreements, mobile SIM cards and phones have also been recovered from his rented accommodation in Samalkha, said Singh.

Trained by the ISI for five months, the police said, Haider was assigned the task to recce army installations in Punjab.

The suspected spy had entered India through Bangladesh, the police said. He also revealed that as per instructions from his mentors, he had received the recovered confidential documents from a source in Delhi and the same was to be sent to one of his Pakistani handlers via Dubai.
