Sub-inspector Sanjay Bhardwaj was arrested by Budaun police officials after a tip-off from Ghaziabad district police, senior superintendent of police Raghubir Lal said.
Bhardwaj had been booked under the Arms Act and the Explosives Act in December 2010, after the recovery of a large cache of weapons.
"He also carries a reward of R10,000 over his head," Lal added. Bhardwaj’s name hit the headlines after an LMG, hand grenades and a huge quantity of illegal arms, including countrymade arms and rifles, were recovered from his residence at Alapur area of Budaun district, following a police raid.
Police sources said Bhardwaj was facing several other criminal charges in UP’s Budaun, Ghaziabad, Lucknow and Udham Singh Nagar districts.
“Investigations are on to trace the origin of the hand grenade and the LMG,” Badaun senior superintendent of police DK Chaudhary told HT.
