The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed Tata Motors Ltd. (TML) to file its amended petition Saturday and complete all related formalities in the Singur land case. The company had earlier sought time till Monday.
Company counsel Samaraditya Pal pleaded before Justice Soumitra Pal that the hearing on the issue be started only after the amended petition was filed and the changes were formally incorporated.
The company after getting an interim relief from the Supreme Court sought to amend its petition in the high court.
The state government did not resist the amendments in the petition as sought by the company but opposed the adjournment plea, contending that the company was resorting to delaying tactics.
"The Supreme Court in its order directed that the case be concluded expeditiously, preferably within a month. The court and the parties have the knowledge of the facts sought to be introduced through the amendment. So why should the hearing be delayed," said Advocate General Anindya Mitra.
Counsel for the state Kalyan Banerjee later said: "The Tatas are resorting to delaying methods. Since they have got interim relief, they are trying to delay the hearing by hiding behind technicalities."

The Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act was passed by the West Bengal assembly June 14, scrapping the land lease given to Tata Motors by the previous Left Front government for the small car plant in Singur area of Hooghly district.
The act came into force June 21 and on the very next day, the automaker moved the high court challenging the legislation. The court declined the company's plea to restrain the state government from re-distributing to farmers their land that was acquired for the Nano car plant.
The company June 28 approached the Supreme Court against the "undue haste" being shown by the government in returning the land after it was denied any interim relief by the high court.
The Supreme Court June 29 stayed the re-distribution of land acquired from farmers for the auto giant's project till the final order on the matter by the high court.
The apex court also said it will not interfere in the decision, and directed the high court to dispose the case within a month.
