Outgoing Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar on Wednesday bid an emotional goodbye to the force he had led for 13 months.

Outgoing Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar on Wednesday bid an emotional goodbye to the force he had led for 13 months.

He grew emotional while he was saying that he was wearing his police uniform for the last time. “After 37 years of police duty, I have mixed feelings today. I am both happy and sad,” said a teary-eyed Kumar.

“I’m happy because I worked with India’s best police force, was the Delhi police commissioner for 13 months and retired from the Indian Police Service. But I’m sad as this is the last time I’m wearing the uniform,” he said in his farewell speech.

“We have filed charge sheets in every important case in my tenure, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal, Deepak Bharadwaj murder case and the Defence Colony heist,” he said.

Kumar, a 1976-batch IPS officer, took charge of Delhi Police from BK Gupta on July 1 last year.

“I visited many countries and spoke with many policemen across the world. I have no hesitation in saying we are the best. There may be some bad apples. But still, we do a great job,” he said.
