A 31-year-old man from the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh allegedly committed suicide in a lawn behind Krishi Bhawan here on Wednesday afternoon.
The police said Mandadi Adhireddy was upset over the inordinate delay in carving out a separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh.
Adhireddy's body was found hanging from a tree behind Krishi Bhawan, close to Parliament, in the heart of the city. “A resident of Rangareddy district of Andhra Pradesh, Adhireddy left a 10-page note in Telugu, suspected to be a suicide note, which is being translated,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district) Seju P Kuruvilla.
A passerby saw the body and informed the police. There was a placard on the body addressed to politicians and mediapersons requesting them to intensify the process of the formation of Telangana.
Adhireddy had arrived in Delhi on July 18 after boarding a train from the Kachiguda railway station in Hyderabad.
“Born on August 15, 1980, Adhireddy had reached the city on Sampark Kranti Express. Besides a bag, we have recovered a cell phone, identity card and phonebook,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.
The victim's relatives have been informed about the incident and the body has been preserved at the RML Hospital. The post-mortem examination will be conducted after the arrival of the family of the deceased. Adhireddy was working as a driver and is survived by mother and brother. Recently, people and lawmakers of the Telangana region had mounted the campaign for carving out a separate state from Andhra Pradesh.
