From a pool of around 2 lakh applications, the Organising Committee has selected 30,000 volunteers from virtually all walks of life, students, corporate hotshots, professionals, housewives etc.

Known as Delhi United, the volunteer programme has already segregated a large part of the volunteers into various functional areas.

Ceremonies, competitions, protocol, transport, logistics, venue development etc need volunteers for the smooth functioning and execution of all works.

“The training is taking place in Noida. We have divided them as per their aptitude, areas of interest and core skill sets,” said a senior Organising Committee official. Amity University is the official partner for the training programme.

Many training modules based on various functional areas are starting this month. Apart from the set areas of help, the OC needs the volunteers to ferry the athletes and officials.

“We need 3,000 drivers. But as of now, there seems to be a shortage looming over that number. So if need be, we might also use some of the volunteers to ferry athletes for short trips,” said the official.
