‘There had been inadvertent delay in allotment of flats’

The Registrar of Cooperative Societies on Monday told the Delhi high court that he has already approved the names of some members for allotment of flats in a group housing society at Dwarka. But he admitted there had been some “inadvertent” delay in issuing the eligibility letter to them.

The registrar made the submission when he appeared before a bench headed by Justice Pradeep Nandrajog in response to a summons to explain the delay in allotment of flats to eligible members of various group housing societies.

He told the bench that his office has already cleared the names of 67 members of Vasudhara Group Housing Society and now the DDA has to conduct draw of lots for allotment of flats to determine a specific flat to be allocated to a particular member.

On the Registrar's submissions, the bench directed the DDA to conduct the draw of lots within four weeks after completing the necessary formalities.

Directing the Registrar of Cooperative Society to appear in person, the court had asked the senior officer to explain why there had been a delay in clearing names of genuine members for various societies.

Appearing for the members, a senior counsel said these eligible members are having a tough time as they have taken bank loans but are yet to be allocated the flats and have been left paying both the monthly loan installments to the bank as well as rent for the house they are living in.

The court was hearing a petition of group of members of Vasudhara Society, alleging that the RCS has not cleared the names for 67 flats despite the fact that they are eligible.
