‘There was cross firing at Batla House’

The forensic reports of the ‘dermal nitrate’ test conducted on both Sharma and Mohammad Sajid, who died in the encounter, have proved that they opened fire during the encounter, reports Vijaita Singh.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has received the forensic report of the Batla House encounter. It was in this encounter that Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was killed.

The report has established the fact that there was “cross firing” at L-18, Batla House on September 19, 2008. Suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) members allegedly involved in the serial blasts in Delhi were holed up in this house.

Reports of the ‘dermal nitrate’ test conducted on both Sharma and Mohammad Sajid, who died in the encounter, have proved that they opened fire during the encounter.

IM’s alleged mastermind Atif Ameen, who was killed during the encounter, did not open fire. This report establishes the fact that the IM members were armed and they opened fire on the raiding police team led by Sharma.

HC poser to police

Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on a petition seeking judicial enquiry into the September 19 Jamia Nagar encounter. The court also wanted to know from Delhi Police the hurdle in initiating a magisterial enquiry into the encounter, despite NHRC guidelines to do so.
