An inmate, who indulges in violence despite warning, could be made to wear a metal restraint that ties hands with the legs. Moreover, a convict, who gets three annual remissions in his jail term due to good conduct, is also entitled to a reward of seven-week release from jail.

These are excerpts from a 32-page booklet, compiled and printed by Tihar Jail authorities, which seeks to serve as a ready reckoner for the inmates on rules, rights and privileges.
The booklet titled 'Important Information For Prisoner Inmate' is in Hindi and will be distributed among the inmates on Saturday. "The booklet will help first-time offenders in understanding prison conditions," said the jail's Law Officer Sunil Gupta.
The booklet gives an insight into a range of facilities enjoyed by an inmate: up to seven telephone calls to two relatives per week, meeting a visitor for half-hour twice a week, etc. An inmate can also communicate to the Director General, Delhi Prisons, about any complaint against a jail official or a co-inmate.
