Trade unionist arrested for Maoist links

A trade union activist from Okhla was arrested for allegedly recruiting “displaced labourers” into the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) outfit.

A trade union activist from Okhla was arrested for allegedly recruiting “displaced labourers” into the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) outfit. Gopal Mishra, the trade union leader, and his wife Anu were detained by a team of Delhi Police’s Special Cell for allegedly harbouring Maoist leaders who came to Delhi.

The fact that Maoists were recruiting displaced labourers into their fold came to light with the arrest of L.S.N. Murthi, alias Krishna Rao who had been living in Delhi for seven years.

The Maoists reportedly have sympathisers among trade unions in Okhla Industrial Area and a person named Sudhir heads it.

“We picked them for questioning earlier and arrested him on Tuesday,” said a senior police officer.
