The victim, identified as Rajender Jain, a stationery shop-owner who operated from the adjacent Sadar Bazar area, was on his way to the Tis Hazari Metro Station when four men in a luxury vehicle waylaid him around 8pm.

“Jain was accompanied by his nephew, Paras, and they were making their way to the Metro station when a white Hyundai Accent car pulled-up near them and its occupants started firing indiscriminately," said a senior police officer.

Police said eyewitnesses had claimed there were three to four men in the vehicle. The assailants then grabbed a bag, which contained R25,000 in cash, and fled the scene.

Meanwhile, onlookers rushed both Rajender and Paras to the adjacent St. Stephen's Hospital. Both of them received two bullet injuries each. Rajender succumbed to his injuries while Paras is recovering. Both of them are residents of the Mahendru Enclave area located near Timarpur.

“We have registered a case and investigations are under way. The involvement of an insider is suspected," the officer added.
