"Trouble is being fostered by elements across the border. We will resist it. These efforts will not succeed," congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters in New Delhi.

Natarajan said the party was confident that the people of Jammu and Kashmir would not fall prey to the designs of forces against the country.

"The centre and the state government is seized of the matter and we are confident that they will be able to restore law and order and peace in the soonest possible time," she said.

At this juncture, she added, it was the duty of all political parties in the state to cooperate with the efforts of the government to restore peace and ensure that normalcy returned at the earliest.

She said it was a national issue and forces "inimical" to the country were creating trouble.

An indefinite curfew was imposed Wednesday in various towns of Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar where the army staged a flag march in some parts following widespread violence the day before that led to four people being killed and over 90 injured.
