Tunda aide pumped in fake notes via China

A thriving fake Indian currency notes (FICN) syndicate headed by Iqbal Kana, whose name and operations have prominently figured during the interrogation of terror ideologue Syed Abdul Karim ‘Tunda’, is using the China route to supply fake notes to India, official documents assessed by HT revealed.

Besides using Tunda’s network to collect, push and disburse the FICN, Kana, a Pakistan-based garments trader, also used his knowledge and contacts in the garments industry to push the FICN into India, official sources said.

In June this year, Kana had sent a huge FICN consignment with a face value of R29.6 lakh (2,663 notes of R1000 and 596 notes of R500 denomination) which was sent through a FedEx courier parcel from a garment company in Shenzhen city in China’s Guangdong province. The Chinese company manufactures school bags and the FICN came concealed in the bags.

“The FICN was to be received by a restaurant in New Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar. The amount was intercepted and seized when two persons came to receive the parcel,” said officials.

Official sources say Kana till now has pushed in thousands of crores of FICN into India. Originally from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, Kana is one of the main pivots of the fake currency network backed by certain Pakistan-based elements as well as the underworld and Tunda was one of his conduits.

One of the top twenty terrorists sought by Indian security agencies, ‘Tunda’ was arrested by a Delhi Police special cell from the Indo-Nepal border on August 15.
