A man who was not happy with his married life beat his 22-year-old wife to death in her sleep in Jahangirpuri area of northwest Delhi on Sunday.

A man who was not happy with his married life beat his 22-year-old wife to death in her sleep in Jahangirpuri area of northwest Delhi on Sunday.

Police said the man, Dalip, hit his wife Poonam with an iron rod when she was sleeping at her house in Jahangirpuri area of northwest Delhi.

After killing her, Dalip called up the police saying robbers had entered his house and attacked him and his wife.

"Dalip's statement appeared suspicious and we started questioning him. He broke down and confessed to killing his wife," a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity.

The police said Dalip did not want to marry Poonam as he was in love with some other girl.

"He works as a driver. He had attempted to kill Poonam three times earlier as well," the officer added. A case of murder has been registered.
