‘Unstable’ woman held for kidnap attempt

A 25-year-old mentally unstable woman was arrested on Tuesday after she tried to kidnap two nursery girls.

The woman went to a government-run primary school in central Delhi and attempted to flee with two nursery students.

Local people got suspicious and questioned her about the girls. When the woman could not give any convincing reason for picking up two minor girls, she was handed over to the local police. According to police, the woman refused to cooperate during questioning and even misbehaved with policemen.

The woman was later brought to Chandni Mahal police station and a case of kidnapping and obstructing a public servant in discharging of public functions was registered against her.

During interrogation, she identified herself as Pinki, a resident of Rithala in northwest Delhi, police said.

Additional commissioner of police (central) Devesh Chandra Shrivastava said investigation revealed the woman was mentally unstable and was undergoing treatment at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.

He also said that Pinki's husband, who works in a private company, has not lodged a missing complaint.
