UP tops in complaints against cops

Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police, which faced flak over its action during the farmers’ protest in Greater Noida, was at the top vis-a-vis complaints against police forces, submitted to the National Human Rights Commission, in 2010-11.

The rights panel received 8,768 complaints from UP, regarding police forces, including those related to custodial death and torture, victimisation and fake encounters.

Delhi came second, with 1,023 complaints, followed by Haryana (782), Rajasthan (571) and Bihar (533). pti
