Victims’ patience paid off in the end

“As soon as the assailants got off the bus, we begged the bus driver and conductor to stop so that all those who had been robbed could pursue them but they refused,” said Elena, who was made to lodge her complaint and identify the assailants at the Mayapuri Police Station late evening.

She was among the six passengers who were robbed at knifepoint among a crowd of a reported 60 office-goers en route Nehru Place from Uttam Nagar between 10:30 and 11 on Wednesday morning.

“The bus driver and conductor told us to get off in the middle of the Outer Ring Road and walk to the Sadar Police Station. That’s when we got angry and some passengers assaulted both of them alleging that they were hand in glove with the assailants because they were refusing to cooperate,” she said.

“From Dhaula Kuan they told us to go to the Janakpuri Police Station. Once there, we were told to go the Hari Nagar Police Station. Even there they refused to hear us out. We were made to wait for an hour before being taken to the Mayapuri Police Station at 4 p.m.,” said Elena.

She spent more than the next six hours there.

“We were showing both victims a dossier of known criminals so that the they could identify the criminals. All this takes time,” said DCP Sharad Aggarwal (west).
