Voter list revision starts today in Gurgaon

Residents will be able to register their names in the list, correct spellings of names and update addresses and other missing details over the next four weeks.

The revision would especially benefit thousands of people in New Gurgaon townships like DLF City, Sushant Lok, Palam Vihar, Southcity and HUDA sectors, whose names were missing from electoral rolls during May’s General Elections.

After revising the electoral list, the administration will take up the task of issuing fresh voter identity cards.

Private initiative
DLF Qutub Enclave residents’ welfare association (QERWA) has hired a private agency to do a parallel revision of the electoral list in all five phases – comprising 31 polling booth areas -- of DLF City, at a cost of Rs 4 lakh.

QERWA representatives claimed that names of about a lakh residents had been deleted from the lists during the last Parliamentary elections. “DLF City has about one lakh residents, roughly 55,000 of whom are eligible to vote. However, only 25,000 residents had their names in the list during the General Election. We have, therefore, hired a private agency to collect details from all houses and share the data with the administration,” said RS Rathee, president of QERWA.

“Eligible voters, whose names are found missing from the list, would be provided with the requisite application form on the spot. Representatives of political parties, too, have been provided a copy of the voters’ list. Where RWAs are functional, their assistance would be sought in upgrading the list,” said Gurgaon DM and district election officer Rajender Kataria.
