A former Gujarat minister has allegedly told CBI that he and a few others had been directed by the then government's top leadership to monitor the court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT)'s probe into the Ishrat jahan encounter case.

The former minister, along with suspended ACP GL Singhal who is among the seven policemen chargesheeted by the CBI, was allegedly among the nine persons who attended a meeting held on November 19, 2011, to discuss ways to monitor the SIT's encounter probe, said a CBI official.
The SIT had on November 21, 2011, informed the Gujarat high court that the encounter was fake and based on its report the CBI had filed its first information report against 20-odd cops.
The CBI quizzed the former minister after Singhal submitted to it two pen-drives containing alleged recording of conversations during the November 19 meeting.
